Make.com vs Zapier: Which Is Right for Your Business in 2026?

Make.com and Zapier are the two dominant no-code automation platforms. Both connect apps. Both save time. But they're not interchangeable — and picking the wrong one for your needs means either overpaying or hitting a capability wall within six months. Here's the honest breakdown.

Comparison chart on a screen
We've built hundreds of automations on both platforms. Here's what we've learned.

Pricing: Make.com Wins at Scale

Zapier's pricing is based on 'tasks' — every action in every Zap consumes a task. A 5-step Zap that runs 1,000 times per month consumes 5,000 tasks. At their Professional plan ($49/month), you get 2,000 tasks. Heavy users hit $99–$299/month quickly.

Make.com prices on 'operations' — similar concept, but at dramatically lower cost. Their Core plan ($9/month) includes 10,000 operations. Teams with complex, high-volume workflows report saving 60–80% by switching from Zapier to Make.com at equivalent usage levels.

Winner: Make.com — significantly cheaper at every tier for equivalent workflow volume.

Ease of Use: Zapier Wins for Beginners

Zapier's linear Trigger → Action model is genuinely easy to understand. If you can write a sentence ('When X happens in App A, do Y in App B'), you can build a Zap. The setup time for a basic automation is 5–10 minutes.

Make.com's visual canvas is more powerful but has a steeper learning curve. The node-based interface takes time to internalize. Intermediate users who invest 2–4 hours in learning the platform unlock capabilities Zapier simply can't match — but the initial ramp is real.

Winner: Zapier — for non-technical users who need to self-serve simple automations quickly.

Automation Complexity: Make.com Wins Clearly

This is where the two platforms diverge most significantly. Zapier's Paths feature allows basic conditional logic (if/else). But Make.com supports:

  • Multi-path routing with unlimited branches
  • Iterators and aggregators (process arrays, combine data)
  • Error handling and retry logic built into any step
  • Custom HTTP requests to any API without a pre-built connector
  • Data stores (persistent storage between scenario runs)
  • JavaScript and JSON parsing native to the platform
  • Sub-scenarios for reusable workflow components

If your automation requires any logic beyond 'if A then B', Make.com handles it natively. The same workflow in Zapier would require multiple Zaps chained together — which is fragile, expensive, and harder to maintain.

App Ecosystem: Zapier Wins (But the Gap Is Closing)

Zapier connects to over 7,000 apps. Make.com connects to roughly 1,500. For mainstream tools (Google Workspace, Slack, HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, Stripe), both platforms have excellent native integrations. The gap shows up with niche or industry-specific tools.

However, Make.com's HTTP module allows you to call any API manually, which effectively gives you access to any tool that has an API — including ones without a native connector. This requires slightly more setup but removes the dependency on Make.com's app catalog.

Reliability & Error Handling: Make.com Wins

Make.com's error handling is significantly more robust. You can set retry logic, define what happens when a module fails, and receive detailed error logs with full data context. Scenarios can be paused and resumed after fixing an error without losing data.

Zapier's error handling is more limited — failed Zaps get retried a fixed number of times and then dropped. For business-critical workflows where no data can be lost, this is a meaningful limitation.

Our Recommendation

  • Choose Zapier if: You're a non-technical user who needs simple, point-to-point automations quickly. You use mainstream apps. You need something running in under 30 minutes.
  • Choose Make.com if: You need complex logic, data transformation, or multi-step workflows. You're cost-conscious and running high-volume automations. You want robust error handling for critical processes.
  • Choose both if: You have a mix — simple departmental automations (Zapier) alongside complex, business-critical workflows (Make.com).
